Doing business on the British Isles
If you are looking to do business on the British Isles, there are a few things you should know. The first is that the legal system is based on common law, which means that case law is often used to make decisions instead of statutes. This can make it difficult to predict how a court will rule in a particular case. Additionally, the court system is split into three tiers: the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. The High Court is the most senior court in the country and hears the most serious cases; the Court of Appeal hears appeals from lower courts; and the Supreme Court is the highest court in the land and has the final say on all cases.
Another thing you should be aware of is that England and Wales have a separate legal system from Scotland. This means that Scots law will apply in Scotland, and English law will apply in England and Wales.
Because of Brexit, doing business with the UK has become increasingly difficult. Therefore we generally do not recommend clients to move to the UK. However, we do recommend Ireland since the country is still a member of the EU and is a solid and stable economy.
